As the semester is coming to a close I have started paying more attention to the news again. There has been a lot of breaking stories over the course of this last month that I did not get a chance to talk about. One of the biggest stories is also one of the most recent. I of course am talking about the recent healthcare bill that the house of representatives have passed. This bill is the second attempt at repealing some features from obamacare in order to make it more affordable. The problem however, is that in the process of doing this millions of americans are going to be left without any insurance. House republicans are trying to run healthcare ike a business, which I think is extremely unethical. In my opinion, I don’t believe any first world country should even have to consider universal healthcare for its citizens. The criticisms of this bill don’t end here though, another major change that many people are protesting is the change to leave pre existing condition coverage up to the states. The people who requiree health care the most are the one’s being left out of it (is the state has anything to say about it). This change comes a couple of weeks after president Trump promised to leave the pre existing conditions part of obamacare alone. Blatant lies like these need to be confronted, we cannot allow our elected officials to get away with lies to the public without any sort of explanation. The solution they came up for treating people with pre existing conditions was to create high risk pools. These money pools would be government funded and provide money for people with pre existing conditions. The problem however, is that the current funds that are provided do not even scratch the surface of what would be required. These issues need to be addressed before the bill passes the senate and becomes law. If it is not I hope that the american people will make their voices heard when the elections of 2018 arrive. So there you have it, the citizens of this country need to start holding their elected officials responsible, for too long that position has been plagued with corruption and with the interest of big companies first. President Trump also promised to “drain the swamp” and so far it does not seem like he's keeping this promise either considering that insurance companies will be given much more power again if this bill becomes law.

It seems to be more a matter of using equal amount of government resources to support everybody rather than adjusting to help the people who need it more. In this case, I definitely support the assurance of civil rights such as health care for the impoverished to the extent that it benefits the most people.

Sadly, this has become our reality. Human lives shouldn't be a business, but it is. It's a business for the health insurance providers, pharmaceutical companies.

Yes, it is a very sad state of affairs when our government sells away their citizens rights for profits!

Its very sad and unfortunate that people in first world countries really have to worry about having health care or not. I don't work enough hours at one of my jobs to be considered for health care coverage and that worries me because if I am ever sick and have to go to the emergency room I will be left with a hefty bill to pay.

Hi Jose, it's definitely unfortunate that so many people who relied on Obamacare have to worry about being covered. I know so many people who will be left having to pay for medical prescriptions that they need on a regular basis out of pocket, which they can't afford to do.

This is the biggest problem in my opinion. People with pre-existing conditions that rely on expensive medication are very vulnerable to these new changes.

It's amazing the sort of lies and roundabout schemes that the current administration is getting away with - it calls into question whether, at the end of these four years, America will still be widely regarded as a first-world country if our healthcare situation worsens further and the general public's concerns continue to be disregarded in favor of lining the pockets of the rich.

Hello Jose, I also watch the news that it is constantly arguing about affordable healthcare, but many of us always have to pay out of our pockets to pay for our medical expenses since our health insurance cannot pay for everything. It has always been an issue and now since healthcare has now become a mandatory thing that as American citizens need to have health insurance, the health insurance will take advantage of us by overpaying to get coverage.

I completely agree with you, and I think that eventually people will start opening their eyes and noticing that these healthcare changes are only making it worse for the middle class in America.

We tend to live in a time where people tend to care more about money and power then they do about other human beings. It think there is still a lot more the government is capable of doing if it were to get everything corrected.

It is a real shame that we have yet to come to the point as a society where we take the resources needed from a whole to look out for eachother. It seems that greed will always play a role in the american dream and that it will only become more apparent. Hallelujah money
