Watching the video left me in shock. Although I'm not familiar with the Saudi Arabian culture, I know for a fact women are restricted from engaging in various activities. As someone who is female, I always find myself filled with joy when I see women empower themselves by defying the roles societies place on them. However, I know this video will likely bring conflict among the people of Saudi Arabia. The culture does not allow women to do certain activities, especially when the activity is considered masculine. According to CNN, the director of the music video was trying to promote equal rights for women. In the case of the video, the specific issue is about the country’s guardianship system. For women to travel or marry in Saudi Arabia, permission must be granted by their male relatives. There is no question women are seen as second-class in comparison to the men. With the video being posted this past December near the end of 2016, I am assuming the inequality for women in Saudi Arabia has only been brought to light within the past decade.
I think the director was right to bring this issue to the residents of Saudi Arabia. I find it necessary to spread word of the current status of women in this country if changes are to be made. With more people gaining access to the Internet, they can further understand the culture and the inequality it brings to the women of Saudi Arabia. The information can be spread to others and allow for them to open their minds to the on-goings of other countries. In order for there to be change, someone must take action.

I see the video as a perfect example of how the connectivity of the internet can cause positive awareness, discussion, and change. I think a good number of Americans are well aware of the oppression of women in certain middle-eastern and African countries, but videos like these spark such great concern for the issues that face our world. I hope that this video and other content like it would continue bringing meaningful change to the world.

I could not agree more Vic, I do think that this director was right to bring these woman issues in his video. Thats how change is made, by going against what is out there. He may not incur change right away, but he helps bring the issue out and make it known for more change to happen.
