Before the common household had access to the Internet, people relied on the news TV channel or newspaper to stay up-to-date with the on-goings of the country. Within the past decade alone, countless websites have been created to spread news to the world. However, the news is never completely true. Several well-known news media are biased to a certain perspective. Often the entire story of an event is warped in some way. As a result, there are arguments over what is considered true or false.
Recently, Trump has commented on certain news medias on the validity of the information they are spreading towards the common people. He claims certain news medias are "fake news" with how they are "the enemy of the American people." What is considered news and what is considered fake news? Everyone interprets information differently. Everyone can look at a painting and have different thoughts of the meaning behind it. Is the news media any different? Everyone can look at recent events posted online and have different perspectives for every single one. While there are certain news media that will attempt to remain neutral, there is still a small amount of bias.

Watching the video left me in shock. Although I'm not familiar with the Saudi Arabian culture, I know for a fact women are restricted from engaging in various activities. As someone who is female, I always find myself filled with joy when I see women empower themselves by defying the roles societies place on them. However, I know this video will likely bring conflict among the people of Saudi Arabia. The culture does not allow women to do certain activities, especially when the activity is considered masculine. According to CNN, the director of the music video was trying to promote equal rights for women. In the case of the video, the specific issue is about the country’s guardianship system. For women to travel or marry in Saudi Arabia, permission must be granted by their male relatives. There is no question women are seen as second-class in comparison to the men. With the video being posted this past December near the end of 2016, I am assuming the inequality for women in Saudi Arabia has only been brought to light within the past decade.
I think the director was right to bring this issue to the residents of Saudi Arabia. I find it necessary to spread word of the current status of women in this country if changes are to be made. With more people gaining access to the Internet, they can further understand the culture and the inequality it brings to the women of Saudi Arabia. The information can be spread to others and allow for them to open their minds to the on-goings of other countries. In order for there to be change, someone must take action. |
